A teenage youth was found dead only a few days after being falsely blamed of stealing the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's parents found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

False Allegations Start

The investigation heard how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her child. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was never stolen in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen remains generated online comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Mental Health Effect

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions genuinely were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that one young adult urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest heard from educational staff at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called Kai's family landline and left a voicemail saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The court learned his parents said they did not receive that message.

Official Finding

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and after his interview he was freed while investigations continued."

The official concluded: "There is no proof that the acts or failures of any agency caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is impossible to discern his intent."
